In the coming March, join a group of like minded adventurers and activists in a life changing service learning experience in Rural Zambia. Work alongside local and international activists to create sustainable change for rural communities, while participating in Tevel’s training experience, introducing you to one of the most important movements on the current Global Agenda – ensuring all mankind have a chance for a full and dignified life, no matter who they are and where they live.
Who should apply?
We are looking for young professionals seeking a meaningful service opportunity focused on the socio economic challenges in Zambia, and the global south in general.
Structure and Curriculum
Participants will spend 3 months in Zambia as a group, dividing their time between service roles within projects with Tevel’s local partners, and a fully facilitated and subsidized academic program run by Tevel’s Israeli staff.
After a one week orientation and opening seminar participants will travel to their respective project sites as smaller groups, and receive professional onboarding and orientation for their specific roles. periodically the cohort will convene for weekend seminars.
Volunteers will participate in a unique academic and professional curriculum, contextualizing the service across several disciplines, in addition to providing practical tools and experience. Starting from pre-flight zoom sessions and recommended readings, through in-country orientation and onboarding, followed by weekly sessions and monthly weekend seminars and concluding in an end seminar, participants will engage in an array of activities and training across the following themes:
Accommodation, food transportation and programming are all planned by Tevel staff and with support of our local partners. Participants will share rural living arrangements within small co-ed groups. Limited power and network access, no indoor plumbing and limited access to services and food selection should be expected.
Transportation will be based on Tevel’s vehicles (self driving), public transport, rented vans, bicycles and walking.
The program is 80% subsidized through our partnership with the Israeli Shalom-Corps, in addition to special philanthropic support from The Pears Foundation and The Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, covering all costs of accommodation, ground transportation, food and educational programming. Participants are expected to cover their own International travel, visa and traveler’s insurance, in addition to a participation fee of $1440 ($16 a day, for 90 days). Scholarships will be available through the generous support of the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Family Foundation and so participation costs should not be a barrier for anyone interested in the program.

For a School based income generation and vocational training project in Sinazongwe district, we are seeking a technically savvy designer or carpenter, to train students and faculty in woodworking, and develop products for school income generation.
For a School based income generation and vocational training project in Sinazongwe district, we are seeking a Small to Medium Enterprise intern to support the school owned workshop in developing products, value chains and internal management to improve output and profitability.
For a school-based income generation and vocational training project based on organic horticulture in Sinazongwe, we are seeking an experienced organic farmer that will work with school-based groups on improving the demo farm and farming practices (the instructor will coordinate and cooperate with the district agricultural extension officer currently engaged).
youth outreach and group facilitation: For a school-based income generation and vocational training project based on organic horticulture in Sinazongwe, we are seeking an experienced informal education intern to engage with groups of students within a leadership focused curriculum, in addition to group building efforts focused on the farming project.
for a new girls’ soccer and education project in the district of Sinazongwe, we are seeking experienced youth soccer coaches, to support the growth of the new teams and enrich them with leadership content.
For a women’s farming cooperative in the town of Monze, we are seeking a Business management and administration intern, to improve management practices of the cooperative to maximize income for thousands of cooperative members.
For a women’s cooperative focused on sun flower oil production in the town of Monze, we are seeking an intern to preform best practices research on sunflower production; The intern will also collaborate with an extension officer in farmers outreach in the region.
For a milking cooperative near Monze, we are seeking an experienced dairy farm practitioner or cattle manager. The cooperative is facing challenges with providing quality grazing due to climate change, in addition to knowledge gaps pertaining to silage production, artificial insemination and general animal health care.
For a milking cooperative near Monze, we are seeking an intern to preform practical research on grass cultivation to support the needs of the cooperative, within the context of a demonstration farm and farmers’ outreach.
For a youth outreach program in Mazabuka, we are seeking an informal education professional to engage with local youth on health awareness outreach within the context of a leadership development group.
For a youth leadership program in Mazabuka, we are seeking an experienced informal education practitioner, interested in leading groups of youth in designing and implementing an income generating project with the aim of vocational training and funding scholarships.
For a role based in Lusaka, we are seeking an experienced youth informal education to work within our partners youth outreach center, training youth groups in leadership, gender equality and health awareness workshops.
For a cooperative farm outside of Mumbwa, we are seeking volunteers to support the community through development and execution of new Agro-business training, in addition to improving value chain analysis and market research.
FAQ
In order to protect communities, partner organizations and participants, we require all participants to present a COVID-19 vaccine document when applying.
The program is generously subsidized by Shalom Corps, Pears Foundation and Schusterman Family philanthropies, covering most of the program’s expenses – program, accommodation, transportation, food and project funding. We ask participants to pay a participation fee of 1440$ for the 3 month program (16$ a day). However, we also have scholarships funded by the Hilda and Jacob Blaustein family foundation, so no candidate should hesitate to apply due to funding.
In addition to fees, participants are expected to cover their own airfare, entry visa and travel insurance.

We are following the recommendations of the American CDC and the Israeli ministry of Health’s regarding Zambia’s COVID status. In addition we are closely monitoring trends in Zambia and will err on the side of caution.
